As we approach Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch Episode 4 “The Skull,” we have officially reached the halfway mark of Season 4. It seems to be going by way too quickly! Before we take a look ahead at what this week’s episode has to offer, let’s refresh ourselves with what happened last week in Episode 3 “Death Trap.”

Episode 3 “Death Trap” literally puts Chad, Eric Drummond, and the production team’s lives in danger. James Keenan uses his magnetometer in the South Cave: Great Cavern and finds a potential downward slope that opens into a larger void (this is near the hollow point that Chad previously found). After James leaves the cave and heads back to the Bead Site, Chad and Eric bring a portable jackhammer into the cave.

As the two men start to jackhammer into the hollow point, Chad notices a substantial opening–he even feels cool air circulating from within this new hole. All that glitters isn’t gold when the cave starts to rumble. Rocks start falling; the cave starts collapsing. Chad, Eric, and the production team barely make it out of the cave with their lives. At this point, there is a unanimous decision not to go back into the South Cave.

On the other side of the ranch, James and Josh Feldman have split off from Duane Ollinger and Charlie Boy. James and Josh do some work over at the Bead Site: Shelter Area. They’re combing through the Shelter Area for any artifacts. James finds a radial bead, which is made from a green stone and has an intricate design. We soon learn this is a Jadeite bead that comes from further down south/Mesoamerica.

Duane and Charlie are using a rock wheel attached to the excavator to dig into the Bead Site: Vent Holes. Throughout this process, they find a concave concrete slab. James believes this concrete slab is part of a larger altarpiece.

Episode 4 “The Skull”

Duane, Charlie Boy, James, and Josh continue work at the Bead Site: Vent Holes. James finds himself holding an artifact that might just flip the whole project on its head. This object confirms things we’ve learned from Mary Murdock Meyer in Episode 2 “The Curse of the Aztecs” and Dr. Roger Blomquist in Episode 3 “Death Trap.”

Upon narrowly escaping death, Chad and Eric decide to look for a new way into the Keyhole Cavern. Eric sets up a LIDAR drone and scans acres of the ranch in hopes of finding something they can work with. When the results come back, Eric notices something that could be a positive area to search in. This leads Chad and Eric to adventure to parts of the ranch they haven’t searched before. When they embark on their adventure they quickly learn there might be something lurking throughout this area.

Josh thinks the vent holes are their best option for finding an open-air cavern. After finding a positive lead with Duane’s rock wheel, they decide to send plumes of smoke into the area. Using Josh’s endoscope camera, the team makes a discovery that could put the entire operation in jeopardy. Are there bodies buried deep below the ranch? Tune in to the Discovery Channel on 12/11 to find out!
